The greatness and diversity of Mexico is infinite in its cultural wealth, which makes the country one of the preferred destinations for international tourism, and now Oaxaca has been crowned best city in the world to visit, according to the Travel + Leisure magazine. reported Miguel Torruco, the federal secretary of Tourism.
After readers of the international publication voted for the 25 best cities in the world to travel, Oaxaca was chosen as number one in the Travel + Leisure World’s Best Awards 2020. However, it was not the only recognition, as the colonial city also emerged as the best city in Mexico to visit.
In addition, within the 25 cities referred to, three other Mexican cities also are placed: San Miguel de Allende (Guanajuato), Mexico City and Mérida (Yucatan), 11 and 24 places respectively on the list.
“It is a pride to work for Oaxaca. My appreciation to the population for their great commitment to receive Mexico and the world in Oaxaca,” said Alejandro Murat, governor of the Oaxaca.
According to the publication, to reach that position, various aspects such as art, architecture, food, drinks, history, and crafts were considered.
“The city also has a museum of modern art in a 17th-century mansion and an impressive pre-Columbian archaeological site. The artisan culture is not only alive in this city in southern Mexico, but it thrives”, according to Travel + Leisure.
