The City of Oaxaca de Juárez, through the Directorate of Public Safety, Roads and Citizen Protection in coordination with federal and state forces, conducted the operation Safe Market at Central de Abaso and the surrounding area.
In a statement, it was explained that the objective of the said operation was to reduce and inhibit the criminal incidence in the most important commercial zone of the city of Oaxaca.
The deputy director of social proximity of the municipal government, Francisco José Santiago, announced that as a result of this joint action, 16 people were arrested, of which 14 were for administrative offenses, one for crimes against health and one more for carrying a firearm without permission.
Francisco José Santiago reported that the operation was deployed with the participation of elements of the State, Federal, and Municipal Police, the State Road Police, the State Agency of Investigations (AEI), the Attorney General of the Republic, the Fire Department, as well as the Subdirectorate of Traffic and Mobility of Oaxaca de Juárez.
He added that thanks to effective coordination, the elements performed inspections, security and surveillance functions in all areas of the market, as well as in the dining and tianguis areas, modular east and west, and the warehouses, in addition to covering the Triangle of Merchants, Nuño del Mercado, and Diagonal de Mercaderes.
He also emphasized the commitment of the Municipal President of Oaxaca de Juárez, Oswaldo García Jarquín and the Directorate of Public Safety, Roads and Citizen Protection, under the command of Captain Aquileo Sánchez Castellanos, to guarantee the safety of the people who visit the market every day, as well as inhibiting the criminal incidence in this area of the city.
