Oaxaca children travel to Morocco for international peace event

The Children’s Dance Group “Cosijoeza”, from the municipality of Villa de Zaachila, attended the 13th edition of the International Enfants de la Paix Festival “(International Meeting of Children for the World Peace) celebrated in Morocco.

This festival aims to promote peace through the participation of children in different cultural events. Villa de Zaachila participated in the dance division with nine boys and two girls between 7 and 13 years old who lived with representatives from 14 other countries, including China, India and the host Morocco.

The director of the Children’s Dance Group “Cosijoeza”, Iván Cruz López, said that in mid-June they received an invitation to participate in this event, where the State Secretariat of Culture, together with the organized civil society, contributed to make the trip a reality.

The group represented Mexico as the only guest country from Latin America; “This event helped them to have new experiences, teachings and show what the Feather Dance is done worldwide; leaving the name of Mexico on everyone’s lips, since this dance is one of the most representative of the Central Valleys of Oaxaca,” said the director.

This global event aims to foster a culture of peace among children of all nations, religious tolerance and education for peace. Within the framework of the event, recognition was given to the director of the Children’s Dance Group “Cosijoeza”, Iván Cruz López, for his outstanding work in the cultural promotion of Zaachileña children.
