The school year 2018-2019 began in Oaxaca with more than 100,000 students attending classes in temporary classrooms.
The governor, Alejandro Murat Hinojosa, acknowledged that this occurred due to the delay in the reconstruction of the public schools affected by the earthquakes of September 2017, mainly in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec region.
“In the part of the reconstruction we are moving forward, I hope that in the next four months we will finish with the rest of the schools, we are already building more than 700 and we are closing the gap of 800 that are left, this month they start the 100 that are remaining,” he said, estimating that by the end of the year the reconstruction of the educational infrastructure will be completed.
In some schools classes did not start, such as “Rodolfo Morales” high school in the volcanoes colony, in the city of Oaxaca, due to an internal conflict between mentors of Section 22 of the SNTE.
According to the school’s assistant principal, Irma Leticia Gálvez, and the president of the parent committee, Aarón Ramírez, a dissident group of the teaching profession opposes the arrival of a director and the removal of three teachers.
In the “Tierra y Libertad” primary school, of the Donají agency in the capital, the classes did not start as well because the IEEPO assigned a new staff of teachers, for which the parents decided to protest the facilities.
In the preschool “Francisco Gabilondo Soler”, of the colony Linda Vista, the students started classes in a private home, due to the lack of formal building damaged by earthquakes last year.
The return of students in more than 13,000 schools was normal, without incidents, said the head of the State Executive, during the inauguration of the new school year in the “José María Morelos” primary school, located in the neighborhood of San José Vista Hermosa , from the municipality of San Agustín Etla, in the Valles Centrales region.
On Monday, according to the president, nearly one million children and young people returned to more than 13,000 schools, as well as more than 80,000 teachers.
Last Thursday Section 22 of the National Union of Education Workers (SNTE) inaugurated the new school year in contempt of the official calendar of the Ministry of Public Education (SEP).
