A New Mexico Sheriff is accusing the FBI of bungling public disclosure about the National Solar Observatory shut down. Otero County Sheriff Benny House says the federal agency’s failure to disclose any details about why the observatory was shut down last week put public safety at risk. Sheriff House complains saying not knowing whether there could have been a haz mat situation or something else that could pose a risk to people makes doing his job to ensure the safety of county residents all the more difficult. The administrators of the observatory in the mountains east of Alamogordo re-opened the site yesterday saying the FBI finished up it’s investigation of unspecified criminal activity there. More details could be forthcoming during a meeting for observatory staffers expected sometime today.
