Gunmen dressed as mariachis kill five in Mexico City

‘Mariachi musician’ gunmen kill three in Mexico City Videos circulating on social media showed musicians in the plaza playing their music around the time of the shooting, without skipping a beat.

A foreign man was among nine people injured in the incident at the Plaza Garibaldi in the capital’s historic downtown, a statement from city prosecutor’s office revealed.

The number of killings in the city, the Mexican capital, has surged since 2014.

At least three people have been shot dead by gunmen dressed as traditional mariachi musicians in a tourist plaza here, the police said.

The prosecutors’ office said investigators were trying to find those responsible for the attack, but few crimes in Mexico are solved. They were still on the run as of Saturday night, and it was unclear if either of the people being questioned was a suspect in the shooting.

The shooting took place as crowds kicked off Mexico’s Independence Day celebrations on Friday and during a busy night at Plaza Garibaldi, a popular square where mariachis play around the clock for tourists and locals.
