Grandmother selling goods at market in Etla dies alone

Between abandonment and misery, an 85-year-old woman died in the public market of Villa de Etla, some 25 kilometers from the capital of Oaxaca.

According to reports from municipal news outlets, Mrs. Juana Santiago Chávez went every day to sell her products, such as corn, beans and some vegetables, which she brought from her community of origin, San Juan Bautista Jayacatlán.

However, last Wednesday afternoon she was found sitting on a crate and crouching; Several hours later, the merchants and customers of the market realized that she was not breathing, so they reported to the authorities.
Paramedics checked Doña Juana but confirmed that she no longer had vital signs.

Until Thursday morning no family member had claimed the body of the grandmother who, according to market vendors, arrived alone every day to sell her products and left in the afternoons.

Paramedics reported that the death was due to natural causes.
