Another day, another taxi protest snarling traffic in Oaxaca

A group of taxi drivers blocked the Cuacnopalan-Nochixtlán superhighway on Thursday in demand of operatives by the Secretariat of Mobility (Semovi) to remove motorcycle taxi drivers.

The protesters placed stones and branches to prevent the transit of vehicles on the highway that connects Oaxaca with Mexico City. Similarly, during the morning, another group blocked access to Nochixtlán.

The taxi drivers requested operations by the Semovi against the motorcycle taxi drivers who began operating in 2017. The taxi drivers and mototaxistas have maintained a conflict, in which they have had confrontations and material damages, such as burned vehicles.

Taxi drivers and teachers creating illegal roadblocks in Oaxaca is a daily occurrence that the government seems to be unable to manage, or unwilling to manage, causing economic turmoil for Oaxaca. Many protests from the groups end in violence and damage to public property.
